Christmas is coming and it looks like mother nature may deliver the gift of some sunshine to OWLS as we hike through the redwoods on Friday, December 12 starting at 10AM to view the coast from Purisima Creek Redwoods Preserve starting from Skyline Blvd. We will hike through the redwoods, with lots of green ferns, plants and moss along the trail, and hopefully see a redheaded woodpecker, a cotton tail bunny, deer and more. This will be a Moderate hike on the western slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains overlooking Half Moon Bay, with a 440 foot elevation loss and then gain (first down and then back up – returning on the same narrow trail) through the woods with some amazing vista areas. Shoes with some traction are recommended. Directions: We will meet at the Purisima Creek North Ridge Parking Area at 10AM where there is bathroom at the trailhead. To get there from Hwy 280, exit onto Hwy 92 going west towards Half Moon Bay, turn left onto Hwy 35 (Skyline Blvd.), travel south on Hwy 35 approximately 4.4 miles. The parking area will be on your right. Or, from the South: Take Hwy 84 to Hwy 35 intersection (Skyline Blvd.), travel on Highway 35 north approximately 8 miles. The parking area will be on your left.

Social Lunch: After our hike we will drive down Skyline Blvd to have lunch at Alice’s Restaurant at 17288 Skyline Boulevard, Woodside, CA 94062, at the intersection with Woodside Road.
